We’ve all been there. The person on the other end of the phone is trying to sell you something. And they ask you those no-brain questions designed to make you say “yes”.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if you had more money every month?”

Everything inside of you cringes and all you want to say is “NO! I DON’T WANT MORE MONEY! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!”

I’ve tried it on myself, too. “Wouldn’t you like to be fitter, Brendon?”

“Yes, Brendon, I would.”

“Wouldn’t getting to the gym tomorrow help that, Brendon?”

“Yes, Brendon, it would.”

But I know I’m just playing that stupid yes game with myself and end up not going. Sometimes the word ‘yes’ isn’t very motivational.

You know what is though?

No.

Flip the script and try that.

“If things stay the same do you think you will achieve [insert your goal here], Brendon?”

“No, Brendon, I won’t.”

“Are you ok with that happening, Brendon?”

“No, Brendon, I’m not.”

“So, are you just going to sit back and do nothing then, Brendon?”

“HELL NO!”

Sometimes the word ‘No’ gets you a lot closer to your goal than ‘yes’ every will. Go ahead and try that now. Then let me know how I can help.
